The WORK of Salvation

The work of salvation involves some work and there is plenty of work to do.  Your involvement in this work will be uplifting and bring joy to your life!

“Set aside those things in your life that don’t really matter.  Decide to do something that will have eternal consequences.  Perhaps you have been prompted to look for ancestors but feel you are not a genealogist. … It all begins with love and a sincere desire to help those beyond the veil who can’t help themselves. …There will be someone who can help you.”
Elder Richard G. Scott
(October 2012 General Conference)

“It remains the responsibility of each individual to know his kindred dead. … Even if the work is done, then it is still each person’s responsibility to study and become acquainted with his ancestors.”
President Joseph Fielding Smith
(Hearts Turned to the  Fathers:   A History of the Genealogical Society of Utah, page 184)

“We hear frequently statements that ‘my work is done,’ or that ‘we cannot find any additional names’. … We are adding 1.7 million [indexed] names every day.  What may have been a dead end could be extended now.”

  • Records go back about 10 generations—each of us has 512 couples as direct line 10th generation ancestors
  • Conservatively assume each subsequent generation had 4 children
  • Go forward 7 generations (excludes last 110 years)
  • =8,388,608  7th generation descendants (if generations 1-6 and spouses are included, =22,368,256 persons)
“If only 5 percent of the [22,368,256] were available due to lack of records or some of the work having already been done, the potential would still be [1,118,413] related people.  That is ample work for all.”

Elder Allan F. Packer
(“Family History Is More Than Genealogy”, RootsTech 2013)
